One thing that can kill your progress on guitar is practicing in the wrong way – it wastes so much time and ends up leaving you feeling frustrated at your lack of progress. Sweeping is one of those techniques that I’ve seen people struggling with the most. When I sweep, I do it in a certain way and there’s one particular thing that makes all the difference in terms of making your sweeps really smooth.

It’s a small detail that will make all the difference because when it comes to sweeping it’s easy to start off badly, and once this happens it’s very difficult to recover. So here it is, probably my best sweeping tip in a raw, uncut live lesson packed full of licks and ideas that you can take away and apply to your own playing.

In this lesson, I return from a holiday and reflect on the impact of a 10-day break from playing guitar. I wanted to share my experience and struggles with you, as I try to regain my note sync and confidence by running through various exercises and riffs.

My fingers feel a bit weak, and some of the moves that used to be effortless now feel awkward, but I know that with the right type of practice, it won’t be long until my strength and dexterity returns. Let’s see how quickly I can get back into the groove!
